The Alchemist

Summary: “Part one”

The book starts by introducing the main character who is a shepherd, the main reason behind what he does is his thirst in discovering other countries, he wanted to travel and the only way to do so is by becoming a shepherd. As he goes on he has this dream that he discovers a treasure but he keeps waking up before finding out where the treasure is hidden. We discover later on that the main character has a crush on a certain merchant’s daughter, but before meeting here he decides to find the treasure first and so he goes to an old woman, a gypsy who tells him that the treasure can be found in the pyramids in Egypt. Later on, he runs into an old man who claims to be the king of Salem, he tells him to go and search for the treasure in Egypt. Unfortuantely, he gets betrayed by the only man he trusted in this foreign country, he steals all his money and leaves him with nothing, but he doesn’t give up, he insists on finding the treasure therefore he got a job
